Reports of Final Grades

Reports of final grades are available online. Please refer to the information regarding Liberal Arts & Professional Studies Academic Standards in the Undergraduate Calendar.

Grade Qualifiers

  • NCR (No Credit Retained) - The course does not count towards satisfaction of academic degree or certificate credit requirements and is not included in grade point averages (major, cumulative, sessional and overall).
  • F NGR - A grade of F with a qualifier of NGR (No Grade Reported) indicates that the instructor did not report a grade. Students are urged to immediately follow-up with the academic unit offering the course.

Grade Reappraisals

Students who are requesting a grade reappraisal of a course must submit their request to the appropriate School/Department in accordance with the instructions and deadlines detailed in the Grades Reappraisal Policy.

Advising

Students who require advising may contact Academic Advising Services.

BA, iBA and BSW Degrees

May Proceed in Honours - means you have met the minimum grade point average to proceed in the Honours program. You will automatically be placed in the Honours program, where applicable. As an Honours student, you retain the option to apply to graduate after 90 credits with the bachelor program, where applicable.

Honours Progression - If you are in a BA, iBA or BSW degree and have less than a 5.00 cumulative grade point average, you will be eligible to proceed in Honours providing you maintain the minimum cumulative grade point average for Honours progression as specified by year level (see chart below). The cumulative grade point average is based only on York courses taken. Earned credits include transfer credit and York credits passed.

"May Proceed Only in Bachelor Program. May Apply to Graduate" - If you have 90 passed credits and did not meet the minimum requirement for Honours, you have been placed in the bachelor (90 credit) degree program. You may not take further courses in an attempt to raise your standing for Honours. If you have met the 90 credit BA degree program requirements you may submit an application to graduate. If you have outstanding courses and have not met the program requirements to graduate you may continue to take courses toward the completion of the 90 credit bachelor degree.

Ineligible to Proceed or Continue BSW - If you are ineligible to proceed or continue in your BSW program as a result of final grades, your enrolment has been blocked. To be eligible to continue at York, you must change your program. BSW students with 84 earned (passed) credits may petition for an Honours waiver to remain in the BSW program.

Major Programs of Study with Minimum Grade Requirements

If you have not met the minimum grade requirements as specified by your program, you are ineligible to continue in it and the Faculty has changed you to another program. If you wish to choose a major other than that which has been assigned, you must complete a Program Change Request.

May Proceed in Bachelor Program - means that your cumulative grade point average is below the minimum requirement to proceed in an Honours program. You are eligible for the 90 credit bachelor degree only. If you were registered in a program that is only offered as an Honours BA and are ineligible to proceed in Honours as a result of final grades, your major has been changed automatically. Please refer to the list below for more information. If you wish to choose a major other than that which has been assigned, you must complete a Program Change Request.

Limited Additional Credits Allowed - Means that you have reached 90 credits and do not have the grade point average required for graduation. You will be allowed a maximum of 12 attempted credits beyond 90 in order to raise your grade point average. Students may have their course loads adjusted in accordance with their academic standing.

Academic Warnings - If you have a decision that contains the phrase "Academic Warning", "Debarment Warning" or "On Probation" you are strongly recommended to make an advising appointment with Academic Advising Services. Information regarding grades, academic decisions and program eligibility is available in the Undergraduate Calendar and on the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies website.

Academic Penalties - If you have fallen below the minimum grade point average to continue in your studies at York, you will receive one of the following academic decisions and will be blocked from future enrolment: "Required to Withdraw for One Year", "Debarred for Two Years", "May Not Proceed" or "May Not continue". In accordance with these penalties, students will be de-enrolled from courses in sessions in which they are not permitted to take part.

BAS, BHRM, BPA and BDEM Degrees

May Proceed in Honours - Means you have met the minimum grade point average to proceed in the Honours program. You will automatically be placed in the Honours program where applicable. BAS students must declare the stream they wish to pursue in Honours. As an Honours student, you retain the option to apply to graduate with the 90-credit bachelor degree program where applicable.

"May Proceed Only in Bachelor Program. May Apply to Graduate" - Means you have 120 passed credits and did not meet the minimum requirement for Honours,, you have been placed in the 90 credit bachelor degree program. You may not take further courses in an attempt to raise your standing for Honours. If you have outstanding courses and have not met the program requirements to graduate, you may continue to take courses toward the completion of the 90 credit bachelor degree. If you have met the 90 credit bachelor degree program requirements, you may submit an application to graduate.

  1. If you are instructed to change your program, you will be eligible to proceed with your studies once your Program Change Request has been approved and processed.
