Religious Accommodation Guidelines - 2017-2018 Academic Year

The following calendar is meant as a guide to religious accommodations.

The guide has been compiled using the Interfaith Calendar as a source, and is provided for reference purposes only. It is not intended to be, nor should it be, relied upon as an authority on holy days.

Please note:

  • Dates of Islamic observance are tentative because they are based on the local first sightings of the lunar crescent of the new moon.
  • Jewish holy days typically begin at sundown on the date prior to what is listed on this calendar.

University event planners and faculty members are encouraged to take these days into consideration when scheduling events.

The policies associated with these dates can be read on the York Courses website. You can also read more information on Statutory Dates in the academic year.

Additional information for students, faculty and staff on religious accommodation can be found on the Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion website.
